How We Study the Bible

We will alternate between three sections of the Bible;

The creation, the fall of man, God’s calling out a nation (Israel), prophecy of the Messiah and salvation through the Messiah’s death, all commonly known as the Old Testament and covering the 39 books from Genesis to Malachi.
The period of the arrival of the Messiah and His credentials in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and Acts and Israels rejection of the Messiah. Israels future destiny through what are known as the Jewish epistles of Hebrews, James 1st and 2nd Peter, 1st, 2nd and 3rd John, Jude and Revelation.
The period we live in today know as the dispensation of grace, and the 13 Epistles written by the Apostle to the
Gentiles, Paul, starting at Romans and working through1st and 2nd Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1st and 2nd Thessalonians, 1st and 2nd Timothy, Titus and Philemon Philippians, Colossians, 1st and 2nd Thessalonians, 1st and 2nd Timothy, Titus and Philemon.
We will be studying a book from each section and then keep rotating book by book. Some Old Testament books will be studied together especially where they are of the same theme such as Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiates, Song of Solomon.

Why Study the Bible?

Knowing the Bible is one of the most important things we can ever do.
But why?
What makes the Bible so important? Can we make life more meaningful and joyous by understanding it?
We need to answer these questions.
The 66 books of the Bible are God’s words to mankind and we have those words in our hands when we hold that book.
If we truly believe that, the Bible becomes more than ink on a page, more than just a book. It’s something supernatural and alive.
We quickly realise that the true Author resides outside of our time dimension, in fact outside of all our humanly knowable dimensions.

God used 40 human authors from varied backgrounds and life situations to write His Words down to introduce Himself to us. The God who spoke light and all things in our universe uses that same Word to speak truth and life and hope to our minds and hearts. That truth leads to His Son, Jesus.
The entire book is about Jesus Christ. His pre incarnation, His coming to earth in the form of sinful man, His death which paid the penalty for sin, His resurrection and ascension to heaven and His coming again a second time.
Through His Word, the Spirit of God awakens us to new life. He frees us from the chains of sin by His free offer of the gift of grace, which any man can partake of simply by faith and that faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
Christians everywhere are turning from sound teaching! This is not always intentional, but despite countless free and easy ways to access the Word of God, we are more likely to be led by the words of a preacher or teacher who uses pieces of the Bible to form a sermon or message they think the congregation wants to hear. Christians are accepting distortion and out-of-context scripture today because we don’t know the bible ourselves.
This was foretold in 2 Timothy 4:4.
“For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear”.

The Word of God is today being turned into just another motivational, success-driven “How To Live Successfully”, “Live your Best Life Now” book.
Bible verses are stripped out of context to pander to the itching ears of a world craving motivating, success-driven concepts to make life more materially successful or to sensationalise prophecy to where believers are looking for the Antichrist and the One World Government around every world event.
One verse social media memes have become the main study tool for many.
What’s lacking in today’s instant world is structured study that covers the entire bible. Only in the study of the WHOLE counsel of God can a true and accurate understanding of God’s dealings with man, and our destiny, be fully understood. This structured bible study was, just a few decades ago, a no-brainer for new and old Christians alike.

Consistent Bible study is not easy! It takes commitment and effort to understand the Word of God properly and to correctly divide it.
2 Timothy 2:15 tells us,  “Be diligent (Study) to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Everyone who makes God’s Word a priority in their lives will testify that it’s a discipline that God uses to transform lives.

We are attempting a complete study of the Word of God, weaving back and forth between three sections of the Bible;

  1. The creation, the fall of man, God’s calling out a nation (Israel), prophecy of the Messiah and salvation through the Messiah’s death, all commonly known as the Old Testament and covering the 39 books from Genesis to Malachi.

We have no interest in peronal opinion or peronal interpretation. God’s Word is clear when it is read properly and unless it’s written in the Word of God, it is of no use in our quest for truth.

We will post a series of chapter and verse studies as they are completed, starting with an introduction and then moving to the Book of Genesis. We then move to Matthew’s Gospel and then to Romans and back to Exodus.
The Old Testament books will be depicted by a thumbnail image of a scroll (the Old Testament books were originally written on scrolls) while the New Testament books have a parchment thumbnail image since the New Testament books were written on parchment.

We will also from time to time post Question and Answer articles intended to further magnify The Word of God and offer discussion material.
